"An attempt to discredit the Republican candidate. "I have always voted the Republican ticket and shall today, minus Hugh Moffat. Why not vote for Hugh Moffat?" What follows is a long list of reasons for not voting for Moffat, including his non-hiring of "colored men" and his lack of sympathy for the poor. Moffat was re-elected to a second term as Mayor of Detroit and remained in office until 1875 as is born out by numerous news clippings which accompany this lot."
