2 - c. 24 Mar 1775, Humbie, Alexander " & Jean Bartram
3 - c. 14 Mar 1768, Salton, James " & Janet Crombi
Of these, the first fits the best. The age fits in that James would have been 18 when he married. The Parish is the same as that in which he was married and where his first child was born. What does not fit is that the first known male child of James was named Robert, not David, in the Scottish custom. There was however, a 2 year gap between the marriage date and the christening date of the child named Robert. It is possible that Robert was the second male child, the first being born in another parish, died before being christened, or lastly, the christeing not being recorded, or the recording destroyed or faded. One of these being the case, then the third male child would have been named after the father - which fits as the other child is named James after the father. Because of this custom, I am listing David Moffat & Elizbeth Fairgreeve as the parents of James.

- This info ties in this James with the naming pattern of the children of James Moffat & Jean Lawson. Their 1st male child was named James after the paternal grandfather & their 2nd female child named Ann after the paternal grandmother.
