| Notes |
- Record of first marriage in England to Georgiana "Annie" Wood listed his occupation as "grocer." He worked with his father in the family business. After the death of "Annie" and a disagreement with his father, he and his twin brother, James Ebenezer Moffatt, went to the U.S. They stocked a wagon with trade goods and traveled extensively in Texas. They also hunted buffalo for hides. John later became a house painter. At age 67, he and his family moved from Coleman Co., TX to a homestead near Lovington, NM, where he lived out the rest of his life.
Was a grocer when he lived in England. In America, he was a trader with Indians, a buffalo hunter, house painter, farmer and at one time also operated a trading post on Santa Anna Mountain in Coleman Co. Texas. He was 56 when his youngest child (Virginia Rose Moffatt) was born. This was 1901.
John Moffatt, almost 90 when he died of a stroke, was small at 5' 6" at most, had piercing grey eyes and a long oval head. The latter called by family "The MOFFATT head" had marked dozens of his descendants, both male and female. [1]
