    • Spelling of birthplace also given as Ballelroy and as Ballyleag, Co Antrim Samuel was six years old when he came to America. Samuel and his five sons signed the NY Association pledge of 1775 (Revolutionary War) The family moved to Blagg's Clove, Blooming Grove, Orange Co, NY in 1752, buying farm land from Edward Blagg. Samuel served a term as Overseer of the Poor in 1765. His will, proved on June 17, 1787, was the first recorded in Orange Co. Book "The Moffats of Earlier Days", p 19, indicates that Samuel Moffat bought land from Hugh Gregg, father of Anne Gregg. He joined the Woodbridge Church in 1710.
