Obituary Funeral Rites for Miss Moffatt Held
One of the best loved ladies of Lovington was buried in the Lovington cemetery Saturday afternoon.
Bertha Annabelle Moffatt was born November 16, 1896, at Coleman, Texas, and died at Lovington April 22, 1938.
Miss Moffatt came to New Mexico in 1912 with her parents. She was a member of the first high school class to graduate from Lovington high school in 1915, Shortly after her graduation she accepted a position with the Lister Drug company and for 17 years continuously held a position with the firm.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Lovington Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. W. M, Beauchamp, an old friend of the family, gave a glowing eulogy of the life of Miss Moffatt and the funeral sermon was delivered by Rev, Z. B. Moon, Some specially selected songs were rendered by a selected choir.
The floral offerings were profuse and very beautiful, testifying to the esteem in which the deceased was held. Almost all of the stores in Lovington closed for the services. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Yarbro funeral service.
Miss Moffatt leaves of her immediate family to mourn her departure, her mother, Mrs John Moffatt; one brother Nat, of Lamesa, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. Leona Bratlett of Lamesa, Mrs. Irene Gunn of Hobbs, Mrs Lena Williams of Lovington, besides many nephews and nieces, All members of the immediate family were present during her last hours and at the last sad rites.
Death was due to pneumonia and came after an illness of more than two weeks.
In the death of Bertha Moffatt every citizen of Lovington has lost a friend, one who was kind and sympathizing, and when the scroll of human endeavor is unrolled not the least among those listed there will be Bertha Anabelle Moffatt.  [2
