Notes |
- Joined RAF as an apprentice pilot in 1938. Skill as a pilot judged "exceptional". Initially ferry pilot, later instructor and RAF Test pilot (Wellingtons, Lancasters, etc). 1942, Awarded Air Force Cross. Squadron Leader. 40736. As the war drew to a close, he was test piloting early jet aircraft. He was flying a Gloster Meteor at the Powerjets sports and social club sports day in Whetstone, Leicestershire, when the when the aircraft crashed into a field adjacent to Blaby Cemetery. Grave: Skelsmergh Cemetery, Plot A Grave 36, Westmorland. Memorial seat: Blaby Cemetery, Leicestershire.
