Notes |
- surname may be McIlhenny
- Aunt Dot's bible states Martha's birth date as 11/16/1862, and marriage date as 12/19/1884.
Marge found her mother's notations on the back of Grandpap Moffet's wedding certificate. As follows: Andrew, August 16, 1884 (an 8 month baby??); John 1885 ( lived only few hours); William 1887 or 88 (died at 2 1/2 yrs.); Ethel Feb. 28, 1890 (died at 1+ (??? might be 14) month); Lillian Sept. 7, 1891; Elsie, Feb 14, 1895 (died at age 3); Martha, March 9, 1897.
Per Lillian's memoirs, Martha worked in a stocking mill during her father's long illness to help with expenses. One day, coming home from work, she and her friends passed a group of boys. John was in the group, saw her, and told his friends that he was going to meet and marry her some day. [2]
