  • Notes
    • Journeyman Carpenter, as per Birth Certs for Daisy and Rose. I cannot find for him a birth index, a marriage index (despite Marie Antoinette says she is "Married" in C1891), a reference in C1891, or earlier. Deceased prior to C1901 - Marie Antoinette says she is a widow in C1901. I cannot find a death index 1892-1901. It is just possible that this person is identical to Joseph Fortuner Moffatt (1854-1897), ID Nr I 1764. (However, this theory requires a journeyman carpenter to travel regularly, even surreptitiously, between Battersea and Watford, some 30 kms, during 1889 and 1892, and so must be considered improbable). Another possibility as suggested by EDM is that he is Josiah Murfitt (1830-1899), who lived in Harrow, still 10 kms distant from Watford. This Josiah is a cooper, married and has several children. Could Marie Antoinette have avoided scandal by a series of thin disguises, Josiah-Joseph, cooper-carpenter, even Murfitt-Moffatt. Perhaps significant that after Joseph's death, Marie Antoinette moved to Diss, Norfolk, only 2 kms distant from Josiah's widow who lived in Roydon, Norfolk, and that the two families knew each other? (I'm grateful to EDM for the data she provided, and her perceptive analysis).
