Notes |
- George travelled alone to Australia in ca 1911, in search of accommodation and employment. Highly likely the plan was to send for his wife and children when he was settled. It didn't happen, although George remitted money home on several occasions. George felt it necessary to sign up in ca 1917, but was a poor soldier. He was often off sick. He was discharged as unfit after 6 months, not having left Australia. It is believed he died in Australia soon afterwards. His wife just didn't know what had happened, thereby making it difficult for her to settle affairs, or re-marry.
