    Obituary Carl Jackson Baty, age 92, of Anamosa, departed this worldly life on Saturday September 15, 2012 at the Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.

    Funeral services will be held 10:00 Wednesday morning, September 19, 2012 at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa with interment in the Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Laurie Riley will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 until 7 Tuesday night at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.     Surviving are 5 children, Jessica Siebels, Newark, Ill, John Baty and his wife Jane of Cedar Rapids, Juanita Kelly, Wanda Ward and Jack Baty all of Harrison, Arkansas; grandchildren, Peter and Val Siebels, Laura and Matt Mestan, Stephanie and Delford Doherty, Debbie Novak, Terrel (Cap) and Lynn Jacobs, Chris Ward, Dolly Duke, Jason and Patrick Baty; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; 3 sisters Margaret Clark, Beverly (Loren) Clark and Bonnie (Coy) Walton; a brother Norman (Randi) Baty; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Rose; a sister Marilyn Frasher and a great grandson Carl Jackson.

    Carl Jackson Baty was born September 8, 1920 in Troy Mills, Iowa. He was the son of Dale and Grace McKee Baty. Carl served his country in the United States Navy and Marine Corps and fought in the battle of Iwo Jima were he was injured in the line of duty and stationed in Guam. Carl and Rose Sacco were united in marriage on April 13, 1947 at Everett, Massachusetts. The couple were stationed in Charleston, South Carolina, Great Lakes, Ill, Boston, Mass, New York, New York, Waukegan, Illinois and Norfolk Virginia. Following Carl’s retirement from the Navy the couple moved to Anamosa in 1969 where he was employed at the Iowa Men’s reformatory for 19 years as the Chief Engineer, He was a member of the American Legion Post 0459 in Newark, Illinois, Past President of Iowa Association of Power Engineers and a Boy Scout Troop Leader.
