  • Notes
    • Note: Maude Moffat begat Fern Estes from a man other than Manley Thompson Estes. According to Vera Sisk Brown, Fern's father owned a dry goods store, perhaps in Thomas, Oklahoma.

05/29/2000 Sarah Berneice Harman Armstrong remembers that Fern’s father was a Mr. Hubbard, an attorney or minister in Clinton, and his son was an attorney in the Lexington area of Oklahoma.

06/20/2000: Around age ten, Fern went to live with her aunt Grace Moffat DeLaney, because Manley Estes did not take kindly to Fern. Ruby Estes Sisk says this always bothered her, and it was a big family secret that Manley was not Fern’s biological father. Aunt Grace sent Fern to nursing school.
