  • Notes
    • Charles was only four when his father died and his mother moved the family to Illinois. It was while living there that he received an invitation to establish a newspaper at Prescott, as there was no newspaper in the state north of La Crosse, Wisconsin. The first issue of the "Prescott Paraclete" came out in 1855. Charles' brother Francis later bought an interest in the paper. However in 1861, the two brothers sold the paper and enlisted in Co. A 12th Reg, Wis Vol. Charles later transferred to the regimental band. After the war Charles opened a printing job office in Chicago which was destroyed in Chicago's great fire. Charles then moved to Minneapolis, married, had a son and a daughter. [1]
