  • Notes
    • Of Milliganton. Son of James Laurie III (d. 1828) and Helen MORIN/MORINE (1788-1811) and interesting note: Helen was the daughter of John MORINE, the infamous subject of Robert Burns' epigram "The Laird of Laggan". James Laurie III was the son of James Laurie II 1731-1785 and Janet BARR (1732-1808). James Laurie II was the son of James Laurie I Born 1707 and Agnes WILSON. James Laurie I was the son of William Laurie. James Laurie IV was the last of the Lauries of Milliganton, and was forced to sell the Milliganton estate to creditors. His unlanded brothers all departed Scotland for the US. Information supplied by Courtney Paul, a direct descendant of his brother William LAURIE. Robert Burns "On John Morine, laird of Laggan" When Morine, deceased, to the Devil went down, 'Twas nothing would serve him but Satan's own crown: Thy fool's head, quoth Satan, that crown shall wear never; I grant thou'rt as wicked - but not quite so clever.
