Text | [The following is a transcript of the note that Reuben Curtis Moffat made at the top of the first column, page 1 of the Family Record. All spelling, punctuation, emphasis and parenthetical notations are his. The other notes made by Reuben are transcribed in the detail records for Mary White Pearson (138) and Reuben Curtis (145). The flaw to which Reuben referred is covered in the Mary White Pearson AKA note.] N.B. The Record from which the greater part of the subjoined is derived, was furnished me by a Miss Allen (a relative) of Boston, about the year 1837, '38. It was carefully examined by my mother (Hannah Moffat), whose knowledge of her connections, and recollection of dates are wonderfully accurate as well as extensive; and pronounced correct, so far as her knowledge went. It was written in a narrative form, and in addition to names and dates, stated where each person settled. I believe the record quite accurate where it states definitely. There is one flaw, however, which I note below. R.C. Moffat Brooklyn Aug. 1854 January 2005 The Allen Family Bible Box is currently owned by Richard Fox Allen, Jr. The original owner of the Allen Family Bible is unknown. What is known is that it was in the home of Richard Fox Allen, Sr. at the time that Richard Fox Allen, Jr. was a child. The Bible was re-bound and presented to Herb and Beverly Allen in June 1966 by his mother, brother and sister. The Family Record and Genealogical Chart were inside the Family Bible Box along with other genealogical records that are cited separately. Herb added some information on his own marriages and children to the box. Those records are also cited separately. The first three pages of the Family Record appear to have been written beginning in August 1854 by Reuben Curtis Moffat of Brooklyn, New York. Reuben was born 11 December 1818 to John Little Moffat and Hannah Curtis. The fourth page of the record, which shows the connection of the Allen and Moffat families during the first half of the 1800's, appears to have been written in a different hand. The fifth page is the Genealogical Chart. Based on the handwriting, the Chart seems to have been written by the same individual(s?) as the Record pages. | |
