Notes |
- Weaver. The relationship between Robert Moffatt, husband of Charlotte Elliot, and William Moffitt is not clear but descendants of both are in no doubt that the connection is a close one. William came to Canada about 1818 probably accompanied by his young sons, James and Robert. We know nothing of the boys' mother and very little of his younger children William and Susan. William Jr "went west" and the records in the Alberta Provincial Archives suggest that attempts were made to contact him but there was no reply. William Sr must have married a second time as Susan is described as a half sister to William's sons. She married Andrew Stewart and moved to the United States. We have no current information about her. William's grandson, James son of Robert, appears to have been the only member of the family who continued to spell his name "Moffitt". Whether or not his descendants have continues to do so is unknown but here that spelling has been maintained for that family.
