- Born same day as Harry Truman, (though he did not care to be reminded of it). Graduated 1907 from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in electrical engineering. Went onto work with the Dublin Electr ic Co., and was a Dublin selectman 1910-1912. Then in about 1912 moved to East Weymouth, Mass. with his young family to work as superintendent of the Weymouth Light & Power Co. Served in WWI. Returned to Dublin after the War where he worked as an electrical contracter. Later was head electrical specialist at Westover Field in Springfield, Mass. Served on the N.H. Governor's Council (in the late 1930s early 40s.)
Here are some data from the 1933 Mason Genealogy:
“Mr. Appleton graduated University of Vermont, 1907, B.S., in the course of Electrical Engineering. Selectman at Dublin, 1910, 1911, 1912, and connected with the Dublin Electric Company. He removed to East Weymouth, Mass., and became superintendent of the Weymouth Light and Power Company, but returned to Dublin, 1919, and has conducted an electrical contracting business there since. Selectman, 1920 to 1924 inclusive, 1927 to 1932 inclusive; representative to the General Court, 1925 and 1933; delegate to Constitutional Convention, 1930; state senator, 1931. He served in the World War, being first lieutenant of engineers.
He married Alice Ethel Fox, daughter of Harry Francis Fox & Jane Anne Tait, on 26 Sep 1908. Born Bradford, Pa., on 6 Apr 1883. Data from Mason.
They had the following children:

Janet Appleton wrotes on August 23rd, 1961 "Wednesday the 16th Father developed
pheumonia very suddenly and died very quietly with Mother Dick and me right
there."
The 1910 federal census lists the occupants of the Appleton Farm: Charles F (54, Proprietor Electrical Lighting Co) with mother Abbie S (85), wife Lillian G (52) and boarder Mary E. Frost (62). Apparently son Arthur T (25, electrician), wife Alice F (27), and his son Francis M (9 months) lived in the apartment in the farmhouse just prior to moving down the road to the White House.
The 1920 federal census lists the Arthur T. Appleton family and the three older children, apparently now living in the White House. Arthur (35) is listed as Electrician, Light Plant, indicating that the Dublin Electric Company facilities were still operational in 1920. However the Dublin plant was now just a substation, as the business was sold to the Keene Gas and Electric Company in 1911, and was connected to the Keene grid by a high tension line in 1915.
The 1930 federal census lists the Arthur T. Appleton family and all four children, apparently still living in the White House. Arthur (45) is listed as electrical contracter., , , , [2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
