Text | The only child I have any other info on is William Watson Spear. He was born in Kent County in Dec 1875 and died in Seattle, King, Washington on 25 Nov 1951. He was a retired steam fitter and was cremated. He is listed on the 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses as residing in Seattle Washington. A W.W. Spear is listed on the 1900 census in Denver, Colorado. I have a copy of his death certificate. William married Lena Blanche Davis about 1903. She was born in Kansas on 28 Oct 1882 and died 07 Aug 1977 in Seattle. They had five children: - Lena born abt 1905 - Lowell born 04 Apr 1906 - Edwin born 16 May 1907, died Oakland, CA, 28 Feb 1999 - Eugene born 11 Oct 1908 - Clarence born 12 Feb 1910, died in Jan 1961 The bulk of the info was found through Ancestry.com. I would like to get corroborating documentation on the deaths of Edwin and Clarence. Unfortunately I have not found the time. An interesting note: in 1894, James III was charged with the murder of a man named Brophy in Kent County. The dispute involved William but I don't know all the details beyond what is listed in an article I found. I was unable to attach the article to this email but I'll try again later. Maybe the locals were not pleased with the outcome of the trial and the family felt they had to leave the area. I have not been able to find anything on the family of James and Sarah Elizabeth in Kent County after 1894. I've not been able to find any info on the youngest son, Henry, other than his appearance on the 1880 census. I suspect he died young. I did receive a copy of James Jackson, III's death certificate from LA County confirming his death date and burial in the LA National Cemetery. He was a resident of the Veteran's Facility in LA. I did find a Sarah E. Spear on the 1900 census in Queens, NY. She's listed as being a widow, born in Maryland in Sep 1842, having two (of four) surviving children, working as a housekeeper at a facility called Sanford Hall (hospital/sanitarium?). Alot of coincidences but I can't say I'm convinced that this is James Spear, Jr's wife. The Spear's were wealthy and had lots of land. Plus with all the Moffett's in Maryland, I can't imagine a woman in her late 50's having to to support herself. | |
