Appearing in The Kent News dated May 15 1897
"A happy party sat down Sunday moring at the home of Mr. Wilmer Ford to enjoy a treat of ice cream. The party included Mr. and Mrs. W. Ford, five children and several relatives who were visiting Mr. F's at the time. The cream was partaken of heartily and Mrs. F. complimented upon her ability at making such delicious dessert.
Monday morning when the servant called the folkds she found them unable to get up, and she immediately went for Dr. J. W. Urie, who came and found eleven persons very sick and unable to leave their beds! They had fever and turned blue about the mouth and complained of much misery. Of course it was necessary to summon help and soon many kind neighbors were doing all that was possible for the relief of the patients. On Wednesday they were all in bed and not yet out of danger. The little two-year old baby did not eat any cream and is enjoying good health.
A sample of the cream has been sent to Baltimore by Dr. Urie for analysis so that the exact cause of the trouble may be learned.
Those besides the family are Miss Daisy Moffett, teacher in Galena, Miss Baldwin, Misses Viola and Ursula Moffett, sisters of Mrs. F,, Mr. Ireland of Massey, and Mattie Coleman, a servand at Mrs. Bouldens."
Kent News May 22, 1897
