    William Moffett's Will - Pg. 103

    In the name of God Amen, I William Moffett Senior of the County of Bath and State of Kentucky, being through the abundant Mercy and Goodness of God, though week in body, yet of sound and perfect understanding and memory Do constitute this my. last Will and Testament and desire it to be recorded by all, as such,

    Item first, I desire to have a decent burial: at the / discretion of my dear wife, the expenses of which are to be defrayed out of my personal Estate.

    Item second, I will and positively order, that all my debts be paid out of my personal estate before any distribution thereof shall be made.

    Item third, I give to my dear and loving wife for term of her natural life this dwelling house wherein I now dwell together with the kitchen loom house, Barn Stables, and other outhouses and one equal third part of my land, to be so run off as to include the buildings aforesaid and the Spring. I also bequeath and give to her for her natural life all my negro slaves, except the two girls Emily and Amanda, and after my burial expenses and other debts are paid, one equal third part of all my personal Estate (negro slaves excepted) forever.

    Item fourth, I give to my daughter Polly my negro girl Emily.

    Item fifth, I give to my daughter Rebecca my negro girl Amanda.

    Item sixth, I give to my daughters Polly and Rebecca each one Bed and Bedding, together with all their clothing and wearing apparal.

    Item seventh, My son William, had from me a conveyance of 45 acres of land, which I will to be his portion of my landed Estate.

    Item eighth, I give to my son Willis, one man horse, one cow and calf, and one yearland, together with one-third part of my out hogs, and one-fourth part of the crop of grain now growing and to plant this present year, and the use of such horses and farming utensils as are necessary for the cultivation of the same, and one bed and bedding.

    Item ninth, I give unto my daughter Jane one young sorrel mare two years old this fall, one cow and calf and six head of sheep.

    Item tenth, I give to my son Thomas one bed and bedding.

    Item eleventh, I will that the residue of my estate both real and personal shall, after a deduction of the specifications in the above items named, be equally divided among my children.

    Item twelth I name and appoint my much esteemed friend Daniel' Young and my son James Moffett Executors of this my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto caused my name to be subscribed this twenty-first day of April nineteen (eighteen) hundred and twenty-six.

    Bath County June Court - 1826

    Will proved in open court by oaths of John S. Hughes and Robert Moore and ordered to be recorded on motion of Daniel Young and James Moffett, Executors in said will named oath thereto as the law decrees. It is ordered that probate be granted then in one form and giving security whereupon they separatly entered into and acknowledged Bond in the penalty of $2800. each, the said Daniel Young with Thomas I Young and Robert Moore his security's and the said James Moffett with Thomas Hill, Joseph Ratliff and Caleb Ratliff his security's conditioned for the one and faithful Administration of deceased Estate and performance of his Will.

    Whereupon the same is truly Recorded in my office as the law directs.

  • Notes 
    • He had a total of 10 children. He and two brothers left Ireland about 1784 and came to Philadelphia, PA. The brothers were: David, born in 1753, and Thomas, born in 1767. They left Ireland because of religious oppression and heavy tax levies. William. with wife and brother Thomas, moved to Boonesville, KY in 1787. About this time he and his brothers changed the spelling of their name from Maffett to Moffett. [Source 1] [1]
