Obituary | Lillian Louise Herring Rosas November 5, 1913- June 16, 2007 Lillian Louise Herring Rosas was born on November 5, 1913 to Albert and Mary Maffett Herring in Greenville, Meriwether County, Georgia. Beloved wife, mother, aunt and grandmother, she passed away on June 16, 2007 in Los Angeles, California. Her husband predeceased her. Lillian died from lung cancer even though she was a non-smoker. She leaves behind her grieving daughter Ellen Rosas Fisher and son-in-law Robert James Fisher, her grandsons Jamison Fisher and Cameron Fisher, her niece and many cousins and friends. Lillian graduated from Greenville High School in Greenville, Georgia, and Agnes Scott College, Class of 1934, in Decatur, Georgia. She majored in English and French with a minor in music. Lillian was an accomplished pianist and won a scholarship her senior year. She did graduate work at Columbia University before becoming a teacher and her first assignment was on an island off the coast of Georgia. She later transferred to West Point, Georgia where she met her husband Henry T. Rosas. With her husband she moved west first to San Rafael and then to Tarzana, California. She taught school for 25 years with the Los Angeles Unified School District. Lillian taught first, second and third grades at Granada Hills Elementary, retiring in 1979. Lillian had a very active retirement. She loved to travel and had been to Europe several times, as well as Mexico, Canada and throughout the United States. Lillian was very active in St. James Presbyterian Church serving as first a Deacon, later an Elder and on Session. She was also active in the Presbyterian Women’s group and played the piano for the children’s choir. In addition to her church activities, she was a member of California Retired Teachers Association, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Don Jose de Ortega Chapter, and the Clan Moffat Society. Lillian also volunteered with the Red Cross in Canoga Park. Wherever she went she was frequently asked to play the piano and always responded with grace and enthusiasm whether playing for a wedding, a reception or the children’s choir. Services will be St James Presbyterian Church, 19414 Ventura Blvd., Tarzana, where she was a member for more than 50 years. A light reception will follow in the fellowship hall. She touched many lives and will be missed by all that knew her. [2] | |
