- Adapted by Alaric Faulkner from reminiscences of Lizzie Tait Gallaher, Notes of Stella Fox Beam]
Joseph and Belle’s sons Joseph and William came to America.
Joe came to this country with Adam Moffat. Joe did not remain long. From 1880 to 1882 he lived with his uncle Thomas Tait's family, working at the oil wells, sawmill, etc.
Joe was a good-looking boy, but probably not very bright. As his cousin Lizzie Tait Gallaher put it (probably quoting her father Thomas), he had "a cock and half of steam at the boiler instead of a gauge." By this, she probably meant that he was all brawn and no brains. One time, when her father and mother were away to a funeral, Lizzie cut up a pumpkin and passed it to Joe as an orange.
